pinging heart while generating crash dump?

We've noticed that too tight a setting of HEART_BEAT_TIMEOUT
can interfere with the generation of crash dumps.

Wouldn't it be possible to keep pinging heart while the
crash dump is being generated?

(A reasonable workaround is to set heart to a few minutes,
which will also avoid false positives. Heart is a last line
of defense anyway.)
