RabbitMQ also had problems with the change in atom encoding, and because of
this, the final version of OTP 20 is going to keep backwards compatibility
for atoms that only use the latin-1 range. So if you just wait for a new
release candidate, the problem should go away (unless you want to actually
use code points above 255 in atoms - then Distel needs to be updated).
