Since Perl *was* designed to be a text processing language,
and Erlang *wasn't*, it's not clear that any benchmarks
that have been done tell us much except where the effort
needs to go to make it better.

For example, R12B-3 includes the prototype regular
expression implementation based on PCRE from
http://www.erlang.org/eeps/eep-0011.html
