Finally: Mac Intel patches

The README in the source distribution lists enable/disable options for
building smp support (unrelated to hipe support). It also indicates
that there is a --disable-hipe option. It says hipe will automatically
be enabled on systems that support it. I'll try an explicit
--enable-hipe.
