In 1998 Ericsson Radio forbade Erlang for
new system developments bacause it
was "proprietary". To them radio is "core
technology" where they like to invent
things and get patents. Software is
regarded as some form of commodity
where they feel more comfortable
keeping to the main stream.

Fortunately this nagging about "proprietary"
made it possible to release Erlang as open
source.
