"Process up" notification

Hi,

Is there a way to get notificated when a process registers with a certain name? I suppose the answer is no, but it might be a cool feature :-)

As an alternative, how costly is to periodically check with erlang:whereis, respectively global:whereis_name, that it has been registered? I don't think it might be a problem to check every 10 seconds or so, but it doesn't hurt to double-check.
