First, keep in mind that WhatsApp patches are highly specific to their application and not optimal everywhere else. I'm not quite sure which timer wheel patch you are referring to but I suspect it's the "multiple wheels" patch. OTP implemented multiple timer wheels in 18.0 along with numerous other optimizations.
