[erlang-questions] Erlang doesn't like ubuntu 6.10

As others have mentioned, you need the m4 package, I cheated a bit and did:
sudo apt-get build-dep erlang
which installs everything needed for building from source. Especially useful
as when starting from an almost empty ubuntu server install as I did.
