We debated doing that in our departmental pages here.
We decided that
(1) As a public institution, we couldn't in good conscience put a
    stumbling block in the way of blind or partially sighted people
    without dire necessity.
(2) Since our addresses had _already_ been harvested by spammers,
    there was no dire necessity.
(3) The state of image-to-text software is such that the measure would
    in any case be ineffective.
