Leader election library in erlang

What's the current recommendation for writing a distributed Erlang
application that needs a global leader? Is gen_leader still the top choice?
If so, can someone educate me of its behavior during net-splits? I'd like
to avoid standing up a separate db instance of zookeeper, consul, etcd, etc.
