[erlang-questions] pid weirdness on OTP 18

I can't promise I'll be able to reproduce this, as I've never seen it
before in my 25 years of programming Erlang.

Really, the only thing I did was fire up one node, start gproc, then fire
up another node on the same machine (a Macbook Pro), ping the first node,
start gproc and then issue some gproc commands. Other than the apparent
pid duplication, I saw no indication of any problem.

Can someone provide a solid explanation or should we just write it off as a
ghost in the machine?
