opting out of jinterface build?

I'm building on a platform that doesn't have the required Java
components.  I won't need jinterface anyway.  My config.log in .../erts
says "WARNING: Could not find any useable java compiler, will skip:
jinterface".  But the Makefile produced still attempts to build
something java-related anyway.

My question: what's the clean way to leave java-related targets out of
the build?
