XOP - final proof that UBF is the correct approach

Isn't this XOP stuff proof that XML is struggling towards being
something (UBF) but is fundamentally a )document markup) technology
that is in widespread use for entirely the wrong purposes.

I'm trying to get a foothold into what kind of application would
encourage developers to favor UBF over XML.

Anybody given any thought to this problem that perhaps they can share?
