[erlang-questions] system defined flags

In the man-page for init module:

http://www.erlang.org/doc/man/init.html,

in the description of init:get_arguments/0,  there is a reference to "system
defined flags".
Is it possible to edit "system defined flags?"  (For example, is there a
file with a special name where all of the "system defined flags" are
defined?)
And if so - how would I go about editing these flags?  (In case there is a
file - where is it?)
