[erlang-questions] newbie install help

I'm trying to install erlang on a Suse 10.0 machine.

When I run configure:
./configure --prefix=/home/erlang/erlang

It ends with:
...
configure: error: No curses library functions found
configure: error: /home/eralng/otp_src_R11B-2/erts/configure failed for erts



Running rpm -qa | grep curses  yields:

ncurses-5.4-71
yast2-ncurses-2.12.6-2


Any help will be appreciated.
