compiler error while building hipe

Hi,

Looks like I can no longer build HIPE using gcc 3.4.2...

$ gcc -v
Using built-in specs.
Configured with: FreeBSD/i386 system compiler
Thread model: posix
gcc version 3.4.2 [FreeBSD] 20040728

Does anybody know what could be wrong? I can make it work by removing 
--enable-hipe but I'd like to deliver HIPE with 5.3-RELEASE :-)
