Reto, again thank you very much for the help. I am not sure what is
going on but on my machine, running Fedora Core 2 kernel 2.4.20-8, the
nodes eat eachothers packets.

received packet 3 from node 'bar@REDACTED'
received packet 4 from node 'bar@REDACTED'
received packet 5 from node 'bar@REDACTED'

received packet 8 from node 'bar@REDACTED'
received packet 9 from node 'bar@REDACTED'

Once the second node foo starts receiving packets then bar stops.
