gs editor bug ?

I am trying to use the editor widget in gs, but have
a problem with gs:read(Editor,char_height) which is
supposed to return the "The height of the editor
window measured in characters." according to the gs
user's
guide. But for me it always returns 24 no matter how
large or small the editor happens to be.
