Plan and preparation for R8B-2

attached are 3 patches to erl_interface for R8B-1.                    
                                                                      
11) fixes problem with erl_connect. (previously posted to list).      
12) fixes sortorder in erl_compare_ext and bignum decoding.           
13) fixes build with gcc 3.1 under RH7.2.                             
                                                                      
BTW, there should really be a ei_ equiv for erl_compare_ext.
