We have been thinking along the same lines.  Erlang/OTP is well 
suited for a more distributed control architecture and we had been
planning to run some nodes embedded on cPCI peripheral cards.  In
this scenario I had thought that using the cPSB ethernet bus to load
code and do distribution was a perfect fit.
