inline compilation

Hi again,

I had some trouble that I tracked down to some inlined functions. It was my 
understanding that inlining works only inside a module, not when calling an 
external function. But it seems that the latter is the case, because I made 
a change to a function and suddenly nothing worked until I recompiled the 
other module too...

Should it be so?
