Why is Erlang so large?

I agree.  The previous base+OTP+graphics scheme was fine.  I'm not
interested in the graphics part, and 7 megabytes is a bit on the big
side for us PPP users.
However, IIRC Java 2 is over 20 megabytes and IMO it doesn't offer as
much as Erlang/OTP does.
