Right after I began working on this, some events happened at work that
have kept me rather busy. I have built and used the code from Johan
Bevemyr under Linux.
The area I have a lack of experience is with the Windows side. I have
been able to open a serial port under Windows, but I do not yet know
how to do the equivalent of select.

I was sent the serial code you speak of, but the copyright in it
doesn't give me permission to distribute it (I'm not sure it even
gives me permission to use it). We might want to clear that up with
Johan Bevemyr.
