<div dir="ltr">To bring some actual data to this discussion let me present the following. I downloaded all of the mail archive, Broke up the messages and discarded the headers. I then counted the number of lines that were quotes and the length of the non quoted lines. This was with the \n chomped but the footers were included. Here is the data:<div><br></div><div><div>Processed 83,895 messages</div><div><br></div><div>The average line length was 29, with a maximum of 9,907. There were a total of 2,980,949 lines checked.</div><div><br></div><div>The average number of quoted lines per message was 13, the maximum was 1,183. There was a total of 83,894 quoted lines. This does not measure the size of the quoted sections just the total number of lines within a message that were quoted. So a message that quotes 5 lines could be a single 5 lines quote or 5 single line quotes, bear this in mind for the maximum of 1,183.</div><div><br></div><div>If the total of 2,980,949 lines 149,847 were longer than 74. Which is 5%.</div><div><br></div><div>5%!!! OMFG call the mods the end of the world is coming. God save us all. Forgive me father for I have sinned.</div><div><br></div><div>Are we saying that that 5% was such an imposition that we have to have a rule to stop it?</div></div><div><br></div></div>
