I think it would be an excellent idea because it lets you track from your erlang down into the code of the VM and then even into the kernel. I recently attended a Sun seminar on DTrace and they claimed that using DTrace they were able to get a 50% performance improvement between the Java 5 and Java 6 VM's. Although I don't honestly know if that required dtrace instrumentation at the Jave language level.</span><br><br>There is a Google Tech Talk on DTrace. The speaker is the creator of DTrace, and he states that they are willing to help other groups integrate DTrace into
other virtual machines.
