DTLS unexpected message certificate_verify

Sometimes I'm getting the following error in a DTLS server running OTP
22.0.4.
ssl/src/ssl_connection.erl:1323 generated SERVER ALERT: Fatal - Unexpected
Message -
{unexpected_msg,{internal,{certificate_verify,{sha256,rsa},<<158,...>>}}}

Is it a bug in the ssl app or something I'm missing in my verify_fun?
Should I just ignore the error?
