[erlang-questions] net_kernel:start oddity

Ok, here's a big part of the problem: the local network is not put
together very well, so 'kiger.buildd' is not resolving.  That would
certainly cause problems.  It still seems like a bit of a mystery why
one would work and the other would not, though. And the lack of
meaningful error messages does not help either.
