Hi,
I personnaly use a wrapper script which is group leader of beams.
Imply that the node do not daemonize itself but only the wrapper.
Another reason to this, is that my wrapper traps Posix signal and drive erl.
example , a kill on the wrapper call a clean node stop before exiting itself.
In the ps , i grep only my application names and excluding all beams.
The wrapper create its pidfile as any application for integration in init.d or upstart...
my 2 cents.
