Sorry to sound abrupt... I skipped lunch, need to run to the bathroom,
and make a cup of tea, so all my emails are turning out kind of
feisty.

The GPLv3 construct is meant to encourage forking (to allow the
fork+merge model of development we're starting to accept as mainstream
in software), and to ensure that happens safely. There's zero leakage
from the RFC license to the software.
