[erlang-questions] how to know who is the parent pid of a child pid?

It's not possible. The parent has to pass this information to the child.
Something like:

     make_child() ->
             S = self(),
             spawn(fun() -> start_child(S) end).

   start_child(Parent) ->
          ...
