[erlang-questions] NIF's io-lists and UTF

Hi everyone,
I wonder how nif's handle UTF8/16 and size from the C code of einf_inspect_io_list_as_binary does not seem to handle the length correctly from what I can tell but I don't really have a overview all the functions called. I wonder if I am just missing something here so can anyone with experience give me a hint where to keep digging or if my feeling is right?

PS: if my feeling is right I would suggest that perhaps it is good to add something like return the kind of string returned, utf8/16 or plain string and the correct length.
