Android has very aggressive power saving model, which definitely hurts.

For Beagleboard/Pandaboard/Ionics plug (http://www.ionicsplug.com/stratus.html)
under conventional linux erlang works very well. 

Not much experience with HiPE though, as it is more convenient to use generic beam
files until performance is not issue.
