have you considered trying the Lightweight HTTP client, released today by
erlang consulting (avail here:
http://forum.trapexit.org/viewtopic.php?p=44654)?
not tried yet and not sure that it does provide a solution to your issues,
though it sounds like you are developing an app which might consider such a
client.
