bigdaddy:~ joelr$ uname -a
Darwin bigdaddy.local 9.5.0 Darwin Kernel Version 9.5.0: Wed Sep 3
11:29:43 PDT 2008; root:xnu-1228.7.58~1/RELEASE_I386 i386

bigdaddy:~ joelr$ erl -sname foo
Erlang (BEAM) emulator version 5.6.5 [source] [async-threads:0]
[kernel-poll:false]

Works for me and always has.

It does ask whether I want to grant beam permission to connect,
though, at least the first time around.
