Error when using -sname option

Hi,
Bit of a beginner on using Erlang.
I was following a tutorial and it said to run Erlang like follows:
erl.exe -sname ping
It fails miserably. I was wondering if it has got something to do with my OS
(Windows XP) or something to do with how Erlang is set up? And of course,
how do I fix it?
The error was:
C:\PROGRA~1\erl5.3>bin\erl.exe - -sname ping
