inets 2.5.1

I keep getting this error when starting inets as stated on the web page:

feynman ~/inets: erl -config conf/inets.config 
Erlang (BEAM) emulator version 5.0.1 [source]

Eshell V5.0.1  (abort with ^G)

I simply made a symlink from the examples/server_root dir to /var/tmp/,
which should make all the paths ok.  Then I copied the inets.config file
from the website.  I also tried creating my own files and directories from
scratch and receive the same error.
