Simple Applet using Jinterface

Has anyone managed to write a simple applet which just connects back to an
erlang node on the web server platform - much like the timer example in
jive?

I'm getting completely bogged down in all sorts of stuff about epmd etc,
none of which will work in a browser context (I think?)

Is there a simple way to use this stuff in an applet context???
