Yeah, I don't that is a solution for us.  We only use erlang to build 
Riak (which is the only piece we distribute), and we don't have control 
over our customers installed libraries.  I can take this up with the 
product manager, but adding a static SSL library is likely going to make 
the erlang-compiled runtime binaries much bigger (though I wonder if it 
would be faster).
